Chateau Valandraud St. Emillion Grand Cru 2008

Wine Enthusiast - 94/100
Decanter - 17.5/20
Jancis Robinson - 17.5/20

Licorice, jammy black fruits, coffee, truffle and roasted black cherries.  This flamboyant, opulent, hedonistic wine can easily be described as licorice coated sex.  This wine is already offering layers of liquid pleasure.  The first vintage produced completely by Murielle Andraud (one of the owners of the originally small 0.6 hectare plot of vines) is a great success.

Valandraud is the home property of Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud. Valandraud takes its name from something quite personal - Val comes from Vallon de Fongaban where the vines are planted. The second part is from Andraud, the last name of Murielle.  The now 10 hectare vineyard is devoted to plantings of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvginon and small portions of Malbec and Carmenere for reds. White plantings include Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Sauvignon Gris.  Wine making techniques include a combination of traditional and modern techniques and all fruit are harvested by hand.
